I'm not a huge fan of the US. It hasn't go the old charm of Europe, nor the WTF factor of say those Asian countries. It's a bit crass for my liking. But since Tash had a friend in New York and I had an old work colleague in Chicago, we thought what the heck. Free accommodation is a wonderful thing. I will however be forced to concede that I had a great time in New York. There is just so much to do and in a way, the crassness plays a part in it's appeal. Where else could I order a slice of cake the size of a brick, see giant porn billboards in the centre of town, or find an NBA cap made from shiny red chinese cloth. Absolutely Brilliant.
I definitely don't think that I could live there. It's a bit too full on (that's Australian for "over the top" or "extreme") for me, especially with the incessant patriotism. I also found the New Yorkers a bit distant and rude. But if you've got 4 days to kill and can crash with a mate that happens to live in the area, it's a pretty good place to visit :)
