Snowboarding the slopes of Meribel, France - a far cry from the Australian experience.

What an amazing trip! If you have ever grown up in Sydney and had to contend with the inadequate slopes of Perisher or Thredbo, you'll understand what I'm talking about. It probably wasn't the best ski valley to start off with in Europe, seeing as it was indeed the largest. I mean you don't start with the best. We probably should have gone with something a little smaller, maybe some valley in the Pyrénées. Seriously, we only scratched the surface. I could only do blues and some gentle reds, and pretty much everyone else was a beginner. So, we inevitably left a lot of Méribel untouched and didn't really get to explore the Three Valleys at all (we had the lift passes to do so).

Just as the slopes and the views were breathtaking so too was the food. This definitely wasn't to be the lunch time fast food experience I remembered from back home. Meat pies and sausage rolls were replaced with fondues and moules frites. Actually, we had the fondue in the small town we were staying in, but you get the idea. It was good.

People: Me, Natasha, Fredy and my cousin Dave.

Memorable Moments: Fredy fracturing his wrist on the second day and then boarding with it in a cast on the third. Nice work.

Interesting Stuff: Les Trois Vallées (Three Valleys) has over 600 kms of ski runs and is the largest ski area in the world.

Personal Notes: The Alps are cool.

Firsts: First taste of European powder!
