This is close up of la Colonne de Vendôme. It is 44 metres high and is comprised of a stone core, encased in the bronze of 1250 cannons captured at the Battle of Austerliz in 1805. The column is surrounded by some pretty expensive shops, as well as the Ritz Hotel (where Lady Diana stayed before that fateful day).
