I have been living in London for a while now, and despite what many people say, most of the Indian food that I have experienced here isn't that great. Granted, I have only been going to the usual in-the-centre-of-town type restaurants and the obligatory Brick Lane eateries. It would be true to say that I was never going to get good Indian food in those places.
Luckily, Roli and Racha (2 Indian Australians, one with family in England) recommended that we go to the motherland - Southall. It's basically the chinatown of London's Indian and Pakistani population. Except, this isn't just a few streets clumped together. It's a whole fuckin' suburb! Even the train station is marked in Punjabi. During the whole day there I must have seen only 1 white person. It was definitely a culture shock. And how about the food? Yeah, it was amazing!
People: Me, Natasha, Roli, Rachna and Tumbi.
Memorable Moments: Having lunch.
Interesting Stuff: Southall was the main set location for the film Bend It Like Beckham.
Personal Notes: None.
Firsts: First time eating great Indian food in London.
