What a game! After the initial disappointment of their loss to Argentina, host nation France dug deep to pull out a convincing win against Ireland. It was do or die for "Les Bleus", seeing as a loss would have sent them packing from the very tournament the French government had pumped so much into to promote. Yes, the media frenzy surrounding the World Cup has been insane for the last month or so. One cannot help but be accosted by the ramblings of commentators, footage of past game highlights, articles saturating journals and newspapers, and of course, rugby-themed building art covering Paris. It is understandable as Rugby is not the most popular of Northern Hemisphere sports. But even with all of the publicity, here in the capital of the host nation, interest in the World Cup is mediocre at best. I rarely hear it being talked about at home, in the office or anywhere else for that matter, and it is literally a strain trying to get my French friends to go and see their very own team play. It's a dramatic contrast to the atmosphere I experienced during the last World Cup in Australia. > continue reading

Allez Les Wallabies ! Ou plutôt devrais-je dire "Allez les Bleus !". Peu importe, c'est l'heure de se motiver pour la sixième Coupe du Monde, surtout car le tournoi se déroule en France. Ici chez Wengo, les gens ne s'intéressent pas trop à cet événement épique, du coup j'ai proposé aux collègues de participer à un pari amical. J'ai mis des feuilles de papier avec les noms écrits des 20 équipes de rugby dans une boîte ; chaque participant a payé 2 € pour y tirer au hasard une équipe ; et à la fin des 5 semaines de compétition, les gagnants seront révélés : 25 € pour la première place, 10 € pour la deuxième, et 5 € pour la troisième. > continue reading
