Goodbye London

It's hard to imagine that I once had all this time ahead of me. Two years to try to do as much as London England had to offer. Now, after seeing the last two years of my life race by, it seems like I didn't have that much time at all. I realise that I couldn't have done everything. That would be physically impossible. But I had a mental list of things that I could reasonably achieve. However, there still remains quite a fair bit of that list to do. I still haven't visited St Pauls Cathedral, I still haven't seen Macbeth being performed at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, and I still haven't had a chance to have dinner at The Fat Duck. I guess I can always come back for a holiday.

Though my time here has flown by I can take comfort in knowing that I made the most of it. While some of my previous years in Australia have totally escaped me, my almost two years in London have been jam-packed with goodies. It's impossible to list them all but here are some of my favourites:

  • Exploring the London pub and bar scene
  • Experiencing Guy Falk's Day fireworks
  • Watching Patrick Stewart perform at Albery Theatre
  • Dining at Gordon Ramsay's Box Wood Café
  • Playing in a local basketball comp (Stratford)
  • Living in Vauxhall, Kennington and Battersea
  • Going to London festivals (Notting Hill Carnival and the Taste of London)
  • Days trips by overland (Cambridge and Southall)
  • Weekend trips out of London (Bath, Cornwall and East Sussex)
  • Overseas trips (Iceland, Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, Slovenia, Austria, Malta, Morocco, Turkey, and the US of A)

The whole football thing escaped me however. I tried it a few times but never really got into it (except for during the World Cup).

And finally, I'd like to say thanks to a few people who have made my stay in London a memorable one. Shout-outs go to my Ng-Fat cousins for showing me around the Asian scene, Phil for getting me that contract a Framfab, Florian for helping me gank noobs, and Natasha for doing just about everything.

I'm currently off to Mauritius for 3 and a half months to work a personal project. After that I'll head back home to Sydney for 3 months, then back again to Mauritius for 2-3 more, and then finally to France for a year. That's if all goes well. I'll probably come back for a few weekend trips next year, but until then, goodbye London.

Hehe .. Actually you’ve now done all those things … St Pauls Cathedral .. Tick! .. Macbeth - admittedly not at the Globe Theatre but it did have Patrick Stewart playing Macbeth .. Tick! .. Fat Duck .. Tick! No regrets then? hahaha
