Textpattern Makes My Brain Hurt

Waking up some 2 hours ago at roughly 3.45 am, I found my sub-conscious struggling to comprehend Textpattern's two-fold hierarchy and unique tags. All this here is published using glorious Movabletype, but it's not dynamic. Textpattern on the other hand is. Problem is, I've spent so much time creating this mofo of a site that I'm fretting about whether to reinvest another considerable chunk on my life trying to import this over to another system.

I after 45 minutes of tossing and turning I went downstairs to stare once again at all of the Textpattern resources online. But I still couldn't figure out how I could recreate my journal with this relatively new CMS. And after careful, sleep-deprived thought I have now (at this ungodly hour) reached a conclusion that I should just stick to MT. After all, Moveabletype has been good to me. The tags are simple and it leaves you with a warm fuzzy feeling, even though I've had to pay for it.

Dynamic pages would be nice, and Textpattern seems to be more future-proof, but I'm just not willing to go through setting up a blog again. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Textpattern's admin is also pretty ugly :)

UPDATE: Since Movable Type 4.0, this site now uses dynamic pages! Woo hoo!! It did take a fair bit of effort though.

Don’t do it D!!!!!!!! ;P

I can attest to the fact that this site is the result of a long and arduous journey … Many, many days and late nights have been spent building this site block by multi-coloured-block … And despite having a head the shape of a Tic Tac I think you’ve built something to be proud of …

Can I have my bf back now? hehe

no. once he’s finished with the blog, we’re gonna play WoW. wooo wooo. chug-a-chug-a-chug-a-chug-a chug-a-chug-a-chug-a-chug-a

besides, it’s better to endure the pain now than in 6 months when the transition becomes more difficult. and didn’t you realise, the re-designs are endless.

Tweaks and adjustments are expected! But if he continually redesigns the thing, he’ll totally subordinate the purpose of the blog. This blog wants to be populated with experiences and anecdotes! It needs to have content! And for that happen, D needs a life. (I mean that in the nicest possible way of course! hehe)

‘Sides, there’s already a forum for ppl interested in D’s world of WoW .. Everybody who has a WoW account .. ;P

you think it’s just gonna be tweaks and adjustments? ha! ha ha!

seriously, d can’t help himself. it’s like when he tries to convince others (but mostly himself) that he isn’t / wasn’t into “sick shit” and “sicker shit”, it just doesn’t fly.

for this blog to be perfect it needs a slave to tweak it 16 hours a day and migrate it to every blog platform, each the tiniest bit better than the last.

besides, this thing isn’t even live yet. and you know what happens when it goes live? d gets sick of looking at it because he’s spent 6 months designing the thing so he starts to make a few “changes”. before you know it, he’s back to square 1!

it’s really starting to hurt his WoW time. but not to worry, if he does ever “finish” the blog, it’ll be non-stop WoW from then on!

by the way, your comment about the WoW forum does not compute.

Tai my man, WoW is just unhealthy. You start to stick to your chair after a while.

But yeah, I’m on occassionally now (like maybe 4-8 hours a week). Just started a new Horde char.
